The most spiritually charged cultivar in this year

The most spiritually charged cultivar in this year's modest garden-- planted on May Day, each seed buried with a pinch of ash, a prayer, and prostrations. The divine Ipomoea Jalapa, the powerful High John. We searched for years to find seeds or cultivars, and were finally able to acquire a few seeds at the turn of the year.

They have proven to be elusive and mysterious plants, with sparse records about how they grow in the wild, let alone how to grow and cultivate them in a garden or as a house plant. Despite multiple germination methods, over half of the seeds did not germinate at all, but the few plants that did get established have been growing well! We missed the first two blooms opening, unsure how we could have not seen them when we'd been checking them each morning-- this third blossom today has taught us they are evening/night bloomers.

This year's small crop has been a labor of learning, dedicatory practice, and allowing ourselves to be taught by these plant spirits who have chosen to give this mountaintop a chance. These few plants are an exercise in hope-- we wish to produce as many seeds as we can this year, pollinating deliberately for plant health and hardiness, so we can begin the long germination cycle again over winter. And if we are lucky, perhaps we will have a bigger garden next summer! Within a few growing cycles, we hope to have seeds to give/share, and more hands-on information about their cultivation outdoors and in indoor containers. We'll keep you updated with our progress! 🌿

The American Ash tree is critically endangered due

The American Ash tree is critically endangered due to the invasive emerald ash borer and fungal infections, with huge losses to the tree population in the last decade. As part of his own dedicatory service to the Tree of Life, Lask is taking on a commitment to plant and care for native white and green Ash trees on our land, as regular attention and pesticide/fungal treatments can help save the species. Lask planted the first of the white Ash seeds during our sunrise service on the solstice, and invited the Tree's blessing upon the effort with a verse from the Poetic Edda.

This deer wandered by as we were finishing setup for last night's closing rituals. She's a regular up on the hilltop, and has determined The Humans are harmless as long as we talk to her. She meandered through grazing for about ten minutes just before the live stream began. Always a treat to see the wildlife looking healthy and happy nearby, and an excellent sign of nature's blessings and support on the solstice!
