Try these ideas for easy DIY Dream Wards: -Measure enough string to form a complete circle around your bed frame. Fill a bowl with water, a sprinkle of sage and salt, and place the bowl in direct sunlight. Soak the string in the sunlit bowl for at least one hour, then tie it around the base of your bed frame to create a magical perimeter. -Amethysts and hematite are great stones for dream protection. Keep one (or both) in your pillowcase or under your mattress near your head. Or, you can set a circle of stones around your bed in numbers of 5, 7, 9, or 12 to create a perimeter. -Create a spell bag to keep in your pillowcase. Fill it with salt, sage, lavender, and white rose petals. Consider adding a small stone, bit of candle wax from your altar, high john root, or an animal claw.

The Spring equinox is the ideal time to lock in momentum for growth! As the world shifts back toward potent Light energy, consider magical methods to harness its power. One of the best ways to do this is by selecting and cultivating a plant as a centerpiece for your ritual. For short term goals, consider planting an annual like calendula, sunflowers, or morning glories. For longer-reaching goals, try planting a perennial or even a tree! After selecting your plant, allow it to charge on or near your altar, or whatever you consider the magical center of your home. Inscribe your intention on a candle and burn it near the plant. You can also write your goal on a slip of paper to be kept under its pot or buried in the outside soil with it. Consider making offerings to your plant, such as leaving coins near it or pouring a sip’s-worth of whatever you are drinking each day onto its roots. Dedicate your plant to your goal on the equinox, and tend it regularly each day of the growing season, using it as a focal point and battery for your magical energy.

Spring is the perfect time to get back on track or begin your projects of personal growth. Draw on the natural surge of magic this time of year with simple gestures to invite Life energy into your body, mind, and endeavors. -When you rise from bed, take a moment to stretch. Plant your feet firmly on the floor, and breathe deeply while stretching your arms over your head. As you do so, picture the Tree of Life and use it as an anchor for your own energy. Think of your feet as being deeply rooted in the earth, and invite nature to help you feel grounded as you move through your day. Think of your torso as a strong trunk, which will not be bent by the whims of the outside world. Let energy flow up from your feet and collect in your core to sustain your growth. Imagine your head and reaching hands as the crown, existing in spiritual awareness even while rooted in human life. All your mind and actions to be flexible, willing to work with however the breeze blows that day. Like the Tree, visualize yourself as a vibrant giver, offering compassion to all creatures that come under your “shade” that day. -Each morning, go outside and spend 30-60 seconds facing the sun with your eyes closed. Allow yourself to be fully aware of the warmth on your face, the ground beneath your feet, and the air moving around your body. Listen to any bird or animal noises, or human sounds. Let yourself wake up with the world around you, and breathe deeply of the morning air. Visualize yourself breathing in sunlight and clarity, and let that energy continue to glow with warmth inside you as you go about your day. When you start to feel stressed later in your day, close your eyes for a few seconds, and recall the feeling of the sunshine and the fresh air, and remember that the peace of nature is the true baseline of your reality not the present stressors, which will be temporary.

Make your own Peace Water! This magical solution is great for all-purpose blessings, protecting your space against negative energy and entities, and attracting good spirits. Peace Water comes from an ancient Mediterranean tradition and the belief that evil spirits could not easily cross water. This magical solution is comprised of seven distinct “waters,” which you can gather locally, or use symbolic representations. For this bottle, we used: well water, river water, salt water (seawater), melted snow, mineral water, water from our home tap, and a dash of whiskey. Mix the waters together with powder scraped from a laundry bluing square to achieve the lovely indigo shade in the bottom layer. Then, add a layer of oils, and top it off with Florida Water. When the mixture is finished, finalize it by reading the 23rd Psalm over it (or a prayer of your choice). This is an easy and potent magical craft, and is a fun project to do with children and family. Your altar is typically a central part of your magical practice, so it is important to keep it safe-- physically and metaphysically! Always cleanse a space of the energy and lingering memory impressions of others who may have lived there or passed through before you set up your altar. As you set up an altar, be sure to ward it against negative energy and entities, so you can meditate and scry without fear of attracting unwanted attention. Consider making a paper ward and keeping it folded under your altar cloth or other tools, or choosing specific stones and curios to lend protective energy. It’s a good idea to refresh your altar monthly to keep the energy clear and your wards active.

Altars are usually workspaces. Make sure you take proper precautions with your tools and setup. Check the distance of candles between all flammable objects, and work on a heatsafe surface. Ensure flame sources are in no danger of toppling over, or being tipped by pets or children. Also take care when burning loose herbs and incense-- make sure you have a heat safe container to hold embers, and water on hand to douse any unwanted smoldering. Work in a well-ventilated environment whenever possible, making sure you do not inhale too much smoke. If you keep a dish of ritual water as a fixture on your altar, add a splash of alcohol to keep it from growing bacteria, and be sure to change it every week or so. And of course, it is always a good idea to wash any ritual cups, blades, or used dishes when your work is finished!

Using a sage-based spray or traditional burning sage, make cleansing passes through your home, beginning with the inner/central most point, and working out. Make sure you open a door or window to “herd” negative energy toward and out of with your sage.
